California ScienCenter

Nick didn't have to work today--yay!! So, we headed to one of the places I had pinned on my "Places to see in LA" Pinterest board: The California Science Center!

The best thing about the Science Center?  It is FREE.  Woot!  Granted, it cost $10 to park, but I think you could avoid that by doing some street parking next time.

Nick doing his best to lift up a truck at the x2 strength mark.  Yay for simple machines turning everyone into The Hulk!

The following picture is of the Apollo 18 capsule that should have gone to the moon, until funding was cut.  This capsule ended up docking with a Russian capsule in space in 1975.  It was called The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project.  This was the last manned space flight until the space shuttle in 1981.

Nick and I tested out the sound "umbrellas".  We could whisper across the room at each other.

This is what you get when Nick holds the camera.

They had a cool Google Earth map.  I highlighted in purple the Science Center (in the middle), and where our house is (top left).  It took us about an hour to get from one to the other (31 miles).  You can see the mountains that cut through Los Angeles.  Yes, all of that below the Science Center is city.

Putting my many years of The Claw Game to practice.

I will say this: the Science Center had some cool exhibits--that would have been even cooler if they had been WORKING.  So many things were broken or not working.  Hazards of having buttons to push and cranks to turn--little kids destroying everything.  This definitely dampened the fun factor quite a bit.

After the Science Center, we walked around outside.  The Science Center is in an area called Exposition Park.  The Los Angeles Coliseum, Natural History Museum, Museum of African Americans, and the Science Center are all in this area, which is right next to the USC campus.  They had a beautiful area called The Rose Garden right next to it.  It was "wedding photo" and "QuinceaƱera photo" day.  People EVERYWHERE!

There was this WEIRD statue in one of the little pavilions.  I'm pretty sure there used to be a full statue here, but it was broken.  Otherwise, it was really weird.

I am laughing in this photo, because Nick told me to bend over further, and I realized why.  Such a boy. :)

Boo to USC, but Yay to the Olympics!

I did NOT take a photo of the awkward, anatomically-correct, well-endowed, male and female, headless statues that stand out in the front of the Coliseum.  Seriously...weird and awkward.

Alias was filmed in this coliseum!

I love it when Nick doesn't have to work on the weekends!!

  1. Not sure if you're a Bones fan, but they use that rose garden & the USC campus as their establishing shots of the "Jeffersonian" in DC. Sneaky sneaky.
