I have a new job, and it all comes back to Facebook in the end.
Last school year, towards the beginning of the year, I was "stalking" one of my parents on Facebook. We were friends, so it wasn't technically stalking, but I noticed a conversation she was having with someone else, where I noticed my parent asking another person about if they were doing Girls on the Run that year. The phrase itself intrigued me, so I looked up Girls on the Run on Google.
"Now, wait a minute Allison," you may be thinking. "Don't go off on a rabbit trail or anything."
I'm not. This has a point. Stay with me.
So, last year, I started this amazing program at Southdale called Girls on the Run, thanks to a mom I stalked on Facebook.
Fast forward six months, I am fresh into a new city, and the very first thing I do (in fact, 6 days after we moved here), I go to a Girls on the Run of Los Angeles training. I knew that I wanted to get involved in this program in this new city. It would be a great way to meet people, I loved the program, and I wanted a way to get plugged in right away. At the training, I quickly learned it was for people who had never done the program before, but I didn't care. I was excited to meet the other women on the council.
At the end of the training, the council director at the time asked if I was interested in being a head coach that upcoming year. Turns out, they had a head coach need in Sherman Oaks, because the head coach from the fall was going to have a baby, and would not be available for coaching. I, of course, said absolutely!
Well, I needed to meet with the (now pregnant) coach in order to learn more about the park where we would be having the program. She turned out to be amazing, and we started hanging out in a non-GotR fashion more regularly.
After she had the baby, I did his newborn pictures, and we went on hikes once a week. One day, on a hike, she asked if I would consider being his nanny when she went back to work.
Well, long story short (too late), 4 weeks ago, I started nannying 4 days a week. Mondays and Thursdays I do a half-day so that I can do Girls on the Run, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays I do a full day.
It has been a huge challenge. To basically be thrown into motherhood without any of the preparation was crazy and unexpected. Every day I learn more about how to raise the little man. There are definitely some days that are really good, and some days that are really...not good. But I am so honored that she chose me to take care of him in this critical time in his life.
So I am nannying, and I am still working at Old Navy. I am also volunteering at church in the children's ministry, and I am volunteering as a head coach with Girls on the Run.
So you could say, I am back in my busy routine. I'm still working out whether or not I am doing what I should be doing with the rest of my life, but until then, I am contributing to our family, and enjoying learning new things!
