Photos for Cystic Fibrosis

One of the nicest things about not having a job was that I could go and do things in the middle of the week without having to take off of a job.  One of the coolest things I was able to do was through a well-known photographer named Dane Sanders.  He's basically a celebrity in the photography world.  He posted on his Twitter feed that he needed some help with photographing some kids with Cystic Fibrosis.  They were going to use the images for the National CF foundation walk that is taking place in Huntington Beach.  I was excited to be able to offer my help--sometimes living in SoCal has its advantages.

I was surprised (to say the least) when he said he needed me at Huntington Beach Pier at 8am on Thursday morning.  This doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but it means I would have to leave by at least 6am to be able to get there on time--LA traffic strikes again!  If you know me at all, you know I am NOT a morning person!!  But I was excited to be able to meet Dane and the other photographers as well, and help out with such an awesome cause.  I am familiar with CF because of Nathan and Tricia Lawrenson, whose story I have been following for 3 years now.  I love that in a small way, I am helping Tricia and others like her to have a better life.

The day could not have been more beautiful.  Huntington Beach is a dreamy little area next to the Pacific, with a huge pier and surfers, and lots of little back alleys with rich texture.  I paired up with Dane (not so much on accident), and the 6 other photogs paired up.  Between all of us, we were able to photograph around 20 kids.  It was so nice to be behind the camera again.

I also got to meet Jen, a really nice photog from Fullerton, who I am going to hire to do me and Nick's photos soon.  She is the leader of a FastTrack photographer's group here in SoCal, and I am going to glean knowledge from her. :)

Here's a pic of me, Dane, and Jen.
