ANOTHER accident??

Well, I posted about Nick's accident, and how there is a sense of inevitability for drivers in LA.

That inevitability finally came my way.

On Saturday, I drove Nick to Thousand Oaks (which is west of us) to pick up his motorcycle, which was finally done being repaired!  Afterwards, I was going to drive down to Santa Monica to meet up for lunch with my friend Amy, who was in town for the weekend.

The traffic was heavy on the 101, as usual (you have seen videos of the traffic in posts like this one), and it was very stop-and-go.  At one point, I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting someone in front of me.  The traffic here will be 45 mph, and then stop to nothing very quickly.  After the near-miss, I was on my toes.

Shortly after that, I had to stop quickly again.  Not as quickly as before, but I looked in my rear-view mirror, because it was quick enough that I hoped whoever was behind me would be able to stop.

No such luck.

I saw the girl behind me barreling down on me quickly.  I knew she was going to hit me, so I just braced myself.

Thankfully, she didn't hit me directly.  She kind of veered off to the right to try to avoid me, and hit the back corner of the car.

What made the whole thing probably worse (for the car) than it would have been is that she didn't have a front bumper!

She was on the way to the body shop to get her car fixed, because she was in another accident earlier in the week (you can see the bumper's silhouette in the back of her car).

We think her car was thrown up a little bit, which caused the side piece to rip apart.

And yes, that is the RENTAL CAR I was driving!  I felt really bad returning it to the rental place!

Thankfully, I was okay.  I have some soreness on my chest from the seat belt, but nothing bad.  God protecting us again!
