Weird Weather

In Ohio, there's a saying,
"If you don't like the weather, wait until tomorrow."

That phrase is not applicable here in SoCal.  It would be amended to, "If you don't like the weather, you'd better move."  Or, better yet, "If you don't like the weather, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???"

Two weekends ago, when Nick and I drove to San Diego to see our friends Jud and Sara, we got to experience the weirdness of the weather that is in the Los Angeles area.

In San Diego, it was gorgeous.  Blue skies, perfect weather--probably around 80 degrees--no humidity.

We get into Los Angeles County, and the skies turn gray, it is misty, and the weather drops to 65 degrees.

I didn't even know there were bad weather days like that!

Do you know why?

Because we live in the Valley.  As we were driving north towards home on the 405 (in traffic, of course) around 5:00, Nick said, "How much do you want to bet that it is 85 degrees at our house?"

And he was right.

Not only was it 85 degrees, but it was blue skies and no humidity.

It is ALWAYS 85 degrees, blue skies, and no humidity.  Every day.  Actually, no.  Sometimes it is more than 85 degrees.  I would say 85 degrees is the coolest it has been here in the Valley since we got here.

And it is glorious.

It has rained a total of 2 times in the 69 days we have been here.

The first time it rained was the very first day we were here.  We were in the hotel in Burbank, house-hunting.

The second time it rained was a few weeks ago, very early in the morning.  The sound woke Nick and I up, because it was a sound we didn't recognize.

Did you hear that?  We didn't recognize the sound of rain on the road!!  THAT'S how often it rains here.

I guess I am bringing this up because those silly celebrities don't seem to understand the weather here.

Take Hilary Duff, for example.  On August 17th (that would be 5 days ago), she was wearing this:

Totally cute, but also totally inappropriate, as it was 92 degrees in the Valley that day!  And no, she wasn't in Long Beach or anything when this shot was taken.  She was in Toluca Lake, which is in the Valley!  To give you some perspective, I wore jean shorts, a spaghetti-tank top, and flip flops that day, and was BURNING HOT.

I understand wanting to hide your baby bump and all (no, wait--take that back.  I DON'T understand that.  WHY do celebs do that?), but come on.  Hilary, my dear.  Shorts.  Tank tops.  Embrace them.  I know you've got a bun in the oven, but you don't need to roast it!  It is HOT.  Or hadn't you noticed?

If you didn't notice, it will be that way again tomorrow.

  1. She probably doesn't live in the valley, and on the other side of the hills it was probably getting no hotter than 75 degrees... that nearly down right cold!
