Just a few miscellaneous pictures for your Monday.
Contrary to his look in this pic, Gus and I LOVE his new vet!! We were pretty unhappy with our vet in Ohio, and I am 1000x more happy with this one! I'll have to get a picture of her the next time we go in. :) Dr. April for the win!
I love living in this area!! If I look up and down our main street, I can see mountains. Yay. West Hills is appropriately named. :)
We got a package today from Nick's mom. THANK YOU!! Lots of yummies and fun decorations.
These are the books I have bought since arriving here. Combination of a local discount book shop and the nationwide closing of Borders have aided this for me. However, I am now on a book-buying halt, until I finish these!
Finished so far:
The Help - liked a lot
Room - tough to get through, but a fabulous book
Twenties Girl - I LOVE fluffy books like this one. Funny.
One Day - Good, not a fan of the ending, but loved the character of Emma
Shanghai Girls - great historical fiction about 2 Chinese girls who came to America in the 30s, and their life through the 1950s
Dreams of Joy - continues the story from Shanghai Girls--but much more difficult to read. Unbelievable what the Chinese gov't did to their own people during the "Great Leap Forward"
Reading Now:
Good in Bed (not pictured) - Another fluffy book, but a fun one!
To Read:
The Scarlet Letter
Jane Eyre
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - soon to be made into a movie - about 9/11
Something Borrowed
Nothing to Envy - documentary accounts of North Korea
Three Cups of Tea - a journalist's experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Wuthering Heights
A Comrade Lost and Found - memoir of one journalist who lived in China in the 70s. I have read her other book (Red China Blues) and loved it.
China Witness - accounts from Chinese natives who lived during the Cultural Revolution--this book is banned in China.
To Kill a Mockingbird
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
The Secret Life of Bees
A Tale of Two Cities
L.A. Noir - nonfiction book about the Mickey Cohen-era of Los Angeles
The State of Jones - story of a city in Mississippi that fought for the Union in the Civil War
The Host - Stephenie Meyer's non-Twilight book

Ohh, what a good stack! Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is hands down my favorite book. Ever. So, I hope you enjoy it at least a little bit :) I keep meaning to read The Host and The Help.
ReplyDeleteI've read a couple of the books you have there and they were great. I'm currently reading the Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks, it's a non-fic about HeLa cells. It's actually interesting. I have starter for 10 and One day on my list.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked out paperbackswap? It's awesome! Any books that I purchase I list on there and trade for credits. It's a great way to get the books you want to read and not spend much (just the price of shipping).
Also, hi :) Miss seeing you!
