Celeb Sighting

A few weeks ago, I posted about being in a town of celebrities, and what I would do if I met one.

Well, it happened.

Now, a lot of you might think, "who in the heck are these guys?"

But if you are one of my fifth graders, you know exactly who they are.

Nick and I have been attending Ecclesia since coming out here to LA.  Imagine my surprise a few weeks ago, when walking just ahead of us in the parking lot, was Rhett and Link!  They were on their way into our church!  I was so excited.  I was exclaiming to Nick who they were (he vaguely remembered them), and he said I should go and say hi.

Well, I thought that might be weird.  So I didn't.  Plus, I figured, they are on their way into the same church that I am, and will be there for a couple of hours--a situation for us to meet HAD to arise.

If you don't know Rhett and Link, you should.  They are SO funny!  They produce online videos, and also have a TV show called "Commercial Kings".  In my class this past year, I had a "Video of the Day".  Usually a 5-minute or less (sometimes it was a 10-second video) moment in class, where I would show a funny or emotional or challenging or scientific video to the class.

Once in a while, I didn't have a new video to show, so I would take requests.  One of their favorite videos that almost always got requested, was "T-Shirt War", by Rhett and Link.  Here it is, if you haven't seen it.

Anyways, I noticed during the service that they were sitting a section over from us.  After the service was over, I told Nick I was going to go and talk with them.

So, I just went over, and said hi.  I told them that my students LOVED their videos, and it was one of the most requested videos in our class.  Nick came over with me, and we did introductions all around, and chatted for a little while with them and Rhett's wife.  I said we were from a small town in Ohio, and they are from a little town in North Carolina (they said it and I said, "where?" and they said "exactly").  But as it turns out, Nick actually knew the town--a friend of his from college was from there.  And Rhett's wife knew her!  It is such a small world, it's crazy.

We chatted for about 15 minutes or so.  They were really nice, and it wasn't weird at all, which is good (at least, I don't think it was weird--maybe they thought I was really weird).

So, my first celeb encounter!  Yay for me. :)
